"Musicians and Artists who express themselves through the drum set..."
Lalo Cuesta drummer school intends to educate complete artists, focusing in the personal vision of each student and their own learning paces. The vision is a preconceived idea by the student of what they want to achieve. For instance, one student may want to see it as a hobby and learn enough to be able to play a particular style or maybe see it as a professional activity and really acquire a deep knowledge. These are a couple of examples of the vision one might have. Lalo carefully acknowledges the vision of each one of his students, asking them first and with that basis preparing a specific program to meet their demands, always keeping in mind the basic program that will provide them the basic tools to master the instrument and then reinforce the techniques and themes, which will allow them to achieve what their vision demands.
General purposes (both levels)
- To boost the personal and musical characteristics of each student and help them to develop their personal vision and reach their own mark as artists.
- To form drummers that are able to adapt to the requirements of the music they are working for and the musicians they are playing with. Development of musical sensibility.
-To eradicate all fear of the stage and artistic and working scenario that the student could be engaged in, such as recording studios, concerts, public shows and displays and drum solos.
Specific purposes (both levels)
- Music ear training
- Music score reading learning
- Ability to recognize musical patterns, play and transcribe them
- Dissociation. Motor coordination and independence of the limbs.
- Development of techniques and reading in the snare drum. Development of abilities with hands and feet. Natural displacement trough all the drum set components.
- Deep knowledge of their drum set: tuning, assembly and maintenance.
- Learning of all the popular styles: rock, jazz, blues, pop, metal, latin pop and so on.
- Ability to play and record with click (audio tracks and sequences)
School Values
- Responsibility
- Quality in the devotion to the teaching and professional labor.
- Permanent encouragement to the students.
- Integrity, honesty and trustfulness.
Two levels of teaching
1. Hobby: focused on those who seek to learn enough to quickly manage a specific musical situation.
2. Pro: focused on those who seek to devote themselves professionally to the drums and study in depth the techniques that will allow them a complete control of the drum set.
In both cases the basics must be learn first to build a solid base in theory and techniques and ensure the proper evolution of the learning process.
Requirements
The student will need at least a drum set for the lessons and in case they do not own one, they will need a practice drum set. It is very important the student complete this minimum requirements with the following tools: a metronome, a practice pad, earphones, a CD player (or any type of sound equipment or mp3 player for the lessons and practice), a music stand, elements to deaden the sound of the drum set in case needed.
Additional benefits
Those students that have been devoted throughout the year will earn the right to participate in an artistic exhibit during November or December, in front of an audience formed by those guests that the very students will summon, in a venue the teacher will provide. The event has no extra cost for the student.
These are the prices for the private lessons in both modes.
PRIVATE LESSONS
At the professor’s studio:
(from 9 years of age)
The price will depend on the mode that each student will chose. The modes will be described later.
Classes at the studio also include the footage of the main lessons in digital video format. This will give the student the opportunity to review the audio and images which are testimony of his/her achievements. By seeing and hearing themselves, they can improve and work on their mistakes and weaknesses and also review the professor’s advice. In addition to this, the students will have the right to record some “play along” sessions during the classes in audio format, as part of the regular benefits of the studio lessons, without any extra cost for them.
Mode 1 (monthly payment): 4 lessons per month, each one lasting 60 minutes. The cost is $60.000 Chilean pesos (130US dollars) and it must be paid on the first lesson.
Mode 2 (daily): One lesson of an hour of duration (60 minutes), with a cost of $18.000 Chilean pesos (39US dollars). Each lesson should be paid by the time it is held. This mode is intended only for students with vast knowledge and that are looking to improve a theme, style or particular area.
