He took his first steps with the drums when he was 9 years old, practicing on a drum set that his brother gave him. He began his academic studies when he was 15 years old, at the Escuela de Jazz y Música Popular (Popular and Jazz Music School) of Roberto Lecaros. He received lessons from master Ricardo Ruiz for a whole year.
His first band ICARO played fusion style.
At the age 19 he began his Classic Percussion studies at the Instituto de Música de la Universidad Católica - Catholic University Music Institute - (IMUC by its acronym in Spanish), staying there for two years and simultaneously taking lessons from master Sergio González. Within two months of lessons he joins the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra of Santiago under the direction of Felipe Hidalgo.
After his incursion in the IMUC Lalo takes Classic Percussion lessons at the Escuela Moderna de Música (Modern School of Music) with the masters Ricardo Vivanco, Patricio Hernández and Mario Baeza. During this period Lalo is repeatedly invited to play with highly reputed orchestras such as Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Nacional (National Youth Symphonic Orchestra), the Sinfónica de Chile from Universidad de Chile (Chilean Symphonic of the University of Chile) and the Orquesta Filarmónica de Santiago (Philharmonic Orchestra of Santiago) at the Municipal Theater of Santiago.
He has also worked in some proggressive rock projects like SETI, Subterra and also with Jaime Scalapello. Some other projects were metal rock band Arkham and rock band Furia. He has also participate in tribute bands to Rush, Genesis and Metallica. The hallmark of his career was participating as part of the backup band to Caamora. This project was held in Chile by british musician Clive Nolan (Pendragon, Shadowland, Arena) and the polish singer Agnieszka Swita. The band Subterra was also the supporting band for the Scottish singer FISH (former Marillion).
Lalo has been playing the drums for 20 years now, constantly seeking perfection and always engaging in diverse musical styles, pursuing the enrichment of his own language.
He has also been devoted to teaching for 10 years. His project includes “Student Exhibitions” and didactic drum clinics as well as paperwork on drum and percussion studies, such as his guide named “The Rudiments”.
